The icebreaker Thorbjørn has had long and proud history with the Danish Royal Marine since it was initially put in service in 1994. It has since been overtaken by a group of private investors who have brought the vessel up to date.

UPGRADES AND FEATURES
Thorbjørn has been brought up to date with a wide range of upgrades and modern features while maintaining the original charm that ties this icebreaker to it’s early days in the arctic regions. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions to specific upgrades or amenities.
All work has been done at the shipyard in Svendborg and includes a complete refurbishing of all engine parts and a test of all installations.
The ship has been reestablished with all certificates and the ‘Special Survey’ performed by Norwegian Veritas – this applies for both engine and hull certificates.
Currently a professional engineer is hired to perform daily maintenance. Machines are run regularly and all necessary maintenance carried out.

200 Kw bow propeller installed at the yard

The ship’s cold storage facilities has been upgraded with new cooling liquid

Air conditioning in all accomodation spaces and compartments
Complete repaint (top and bottom) carried out in the dock

Replacement of zink and repaint of all exterior deck and structures with 2-component paint

All sea and over board valves has been given an overhaul and the propeller has been checked
•
New MOB boat installed and all rescue equipment renewed where needed
•
All navigation equipment checked and upgraded where needed
